My Two Main Vices: Shoes and Headphones

There’s just something about shoes and headphones. I buy way more than I need to and I just end up having all these things around. It’s even harder to get rid of them, because I take care of my things so well. So I’ve not had them die out on me easily.

I’ve got a pair of headphones from 20 years ago, and I’m still able to get good sound out of them. I’ve got a whole range that looks like earpieces from the 90’s and I just love the style and feel they give me.

Then about shoes, thankfully not as much as before. But the Tom Sachs shoe purchase from the other day really surprised me. I knew I started to move past shoes, so getting these shoes on such a quick notice is actually not what I’ve been doing for the past couple of years. I’ve been intentional to purchase only what I really feel as a gap of footwear in my use cases. Maybe it’s the range of dad shoes I was also looking at. And the GPS fits that style of dad shoes. I had the NB993’s in my wishlists for some time, but the GPS is definitely a win over those. Just by pure scarcity.

I walked by the New Balance store the other day and saw a bunch of New Balance shoes going for cheap, and it just didn’t have the same appeal as it did before.

With my story from yesterday about my earbuds too, today I took one of the sets out for a spin, it’s doing its job pretty well. I can hear things, and it sounds good. But the noise cancellation is what I really need if I want to work outside, or in a very noisy environment. So instead of cheapening out and getting a new set of cheap earbuds, I’m probably going to just replace the battery of my current ones because they’re tried and tested and they work very well.

Some part of me is quite astounded at how I’m learning to save money. Another part of me is disappointed that it took so long for me to get a better handle on my cash, But in all situations, at least I’m doing it now, especially with my daughter in mind.
