Mechanical Keyboard Guide 2023

Last year I updated in January about the things that I was looking forward to in the MK world, and now these are some of the things I am keen to look out for in 2023:

Tactile switches making a comeback?

At the time of writing, Zaku II has been released, and BolsaSupply made it a tactile switch, instead of a linear with long pole. At the same time, their colorways made it the actual Zaku colors from Gundam. Nice shoutout for the Gundam fans out there, myself included.

60’s or smaller

I had always hoped for this, but in the months of 2023 so far, I have really felt the need to move back towards smaller sized boards. With the Kohaku doing it’s R2, and KBDFans doing a 45% boards (D45), I think there really might be a possibility of it coming back. I am also hoping that Monokei would release the Neko, but a cheaper version of it…

Wilba’s Next Project

I am very keen on what he will do next. His jobs with Ramaworks are done, and the Salvation has delivered, so what will be next? I am interested, and having my wallet at the ready. It might need a bit more funds, but I think it’ll be cool. The approach that HIBI has taken in the past year has been nuts, and I wished I had committed to getting some of the keyboards, but I was just working on receiving the boards I had already ordered before deciding on whether to get more of them or not.

Buying thoughts:

There’s definitely some inflation this year, in terms of what to expect for keyboards. I feel that some of the switches has been kinda high, but at the same time, there’s some bangers going for real cheap, like the JWICK Blacks, and the KTT range of switches. Those are worth getting, and the quality would not let you down.

I have not placed more than $100 on a keyboard for some time, but I think my bets would be placed on HIBI for the next crazy experimental board. I guess we’ll see how things go in the year to come!

Note to self: remember to update this in January…
