It’s not that I really want to post a book review, as much as I want to post something up, as a sign of life maybe. It’s been awhile since I wrote, and I think my mental mojo for writing is on an off season. But here goes with a book review to get be back on track.
Funny enough, Great Big Beautiful Life by Emily Henry uses two writers as the main characters in this story. They are writing a biography about a famous old starlet, and her rise and downfall, going through her family history and its scandalous rise to power.
I’m not a romance reader, but I really want to be as open minded as possible, so actually this is my second Emily Henry book I’ve read this year. It’s not even my only romance novel, I think. I projected a very open mind for myself, and I would like to imagine I’ve maintained that for this entire year.
There’s sex scenes in romance novels. I always assumed there was just a lot of talk about falling in love, so heavy characterization. But no, there are paragraphs dedicated to the entire sex act. An interesting parallel, is how some action books are written with that same focus on sex. There’s action sequences in deep detail, but then sex, in detail as well. I find, there’s a lot more in common with male and female readers than we’d have imagined: both enjoy sex in some literary aspect.
But the book also makes me think about how much I would love my loved ones. It’s a moving story, and I question the idea of sacrifice, and special partners with “the one”. It’s sweet, and I think “the one” exists. It’s heartwarming, making me think of how to love Clarice more as well.
Fun book. I enjoyed it.
