Not Posting Daily Drawings

Over Christmas last year end, a family friend bought the Tom Sachs Caran d’Ache Neocolor 2 for me. It’s quite an amazing pastel because its a naturally dry medium, but if you wet it, it can blend out like watercolors.

And I decided to use one of daily journals I have to draw an image of every day. It’s quite interesting because I’m getting visibly better at drawing with pastels.

The mysterious part is that I’m not post this anywhere. I might do a little zine next year after everything is over. But for now, it’s just something I want to do because its fun.

I struggle with publishing a lot. I don’t know what I should post where, and a lot of the time, I end up with so much work and this whole posting fatigue. I lose track of why I started doing the work I do, and I end up putting things aside.

So without any pressure, I’ll just do my thing, and not show anyone except Clarice for now.

Some notes for drawing with pastel that I’ve learnt so far:

  1. Blending is great, I can draw and blend colors together.
  2. The line weight is almost negligible. Instead, working in shapes and drawing over with darker colors give the best form development.
  3. Keep basic color values, and most images will still come out.
  4. Even though the neocolor is water soluble, it doesn’t mean it should always be the case. So far none of the images have water, also because it’s on Hobonichi paper (Tomoe River).
