T Shirt Story: sans serif by Uniqlo

At the end of year 2 in Polytechnic, we were given a chance to go for a trip to Japan. This was after our internships had ended, and it was a photo trip. There was supposed to be an exhibition after the trip, showcasing students and highlights of the trip.

I was the last name on the list, and I was totally psyched to go.

But, my uncle was starting a company doing golf tours to Hawaii, and the designer he was working with couldn’t go along for the trip. So he asked me if I was keen to go and take photos as part of the trip. He would pay for the food and the basic arrangements, and I’ll just take photos.

I figured I would get myself to Japan again in my life for sure, but when would I ever get a trip to Hawaii with almost all the expenses paid? It was a once in a life time kinda thing. So I agreed to go with my uncle, and gave up the slot for the Japan trip with my friends.

When we came back from all our different trips, and met back in school, my friend Kevin passed me this tshirt from a brand called Uniqlo. They had cool graphic tees, and it was quite a funky tshirt.

Obviously, Uniqlo developed into a huge thing, and this shirt was such a long part of my life. I’ve worn this for nearly 20 years, but the holes were getting bigger, and the fabric just thinning out. It’s a mad shirt. Thanks Kevin.
