A disclaimer: I haven’t bought a new pair of shoes in the past month or two, although I had a pair in February or March, where Clarice got the Tom Sachs GPS Decolage shoe for my birthday (a super early present).
Why do shoes always attract me somehow? It’s protection for the feet, but why do the shapes, sizes, and colors matter to me? I’ve done sketches of shoes, paintings of shoes, took photos and kept different versions of dying shoes in my cupboards just for memory sake. I’ve read books about shoe legends and watched movies and documentaries about how important a pair of shoes were to someone.
And then I’ve owned them. I bought special releases, I’ve waited online and bartered for a pair. I’ve researched and picked shoes that are obscure and yet have a cult following of sorts. I don’t have any more space and I am also quite tired of keeping so many pairs of shoes.
But I still look for them. I spent half an hour on New Balance just, looking at the new range and figuring out what would be worth the cost of it. I don’t have any good answers or reasons to buy them. I just know I don’t have the space to keep any more.
Maybe it’s just how I feel when I walk because I do indeed love walking. Perhaps that’s a key reason why shoes do mean a lot to me, because I do want my feet to be well protected as they clomp around.
I should spend a bit more time developing the why… but I’m happy with all that I have for sure .
