My cousin, CJ, flew back to Singapore for a week. He lives in the States, and its been quite a few years since he’s been back. When I was younger, he was a keen influence in my life, and I really looked up to him in so many ways. I was introduced to skateboarding, heavy metal, drawing and art, because of what he was into.
I would have spent more time together with them, but I’m still recovering from my cough and my aunt is in treatment for cancer. She’s quite vulnerable during this period, so I’m doing my best to avoid going over and getting her sick instead.
On the other family’s end, Clarice’s dad brought Clarice, Allison, and myself out for lunch yesterday, and it was a nice simple meal. We went to Dian Xiao Er, a restaurant specializing in duck. It was tasty duck indeed.
Initially I had considered bringing out an eReader, or my iPad for both days, but I considered that I wanted to spend time talking with family, instead of looking at my devices. Sometimes it’s so easy to want to keep to my disciplines, forgetting that family and people are what keep it the most honest and real. What’s the point of being the most productive person in the world, or having read 100 books a year, if I can’t even spend time with family when they’re around?
I’m glad I decided to keep it real.
