Along with cleaning, and anti-accumulation, I’ve been trying to figure out how to use up the things I have. The good thing about hoarding since I was 15 years old, is I have things from when I was 15 years old. Not many of those things work well, or at all. I’ve taken good care of them, but sometimes, by not using them, they really break apart.
But, some of the things I have can be improved upon, so that they’re used more often. I have a range of earbuds in this shape called the MX500. According to a search by ChatGPT, it’s referencing the Sennheiser series of earbuds, produced en masse. In any case, I’ve got at least 5 of them, and probably something closer to 12-15. None of them were above 50SGD, but they’re different in different ways.
I had gotten into these simple earpieces during the COVID period, because I was bored at home, and getting into Chi-Fi was interesting. Everyone was throwing money at IEMs, but I changed on the VE monks, and they were so retro looking that I had to get myself a pair. They’re cheap, at about SGD7 when I got them. I went on a spree, and purchased the others with all sorts of bells and whistles.
Now, five years past, the foam tips have all dried out and started crumbing in different ways. I’ve passed on these MX500 shaped ear buds because I’ve not gotten good foams to listen to them with. Due to their simple shape and lack of isolation, having a good foam really boosts how they sound.
So to improve my listening experiences once more, and instead of purchasing a brand new earpiece unnecessarily, I’ve ordered new foams to get more mileage out to these earbuds.
It’s not a purchase, it’s an improvement. Or so I tell myself.
But really, some things don’t keep well after 2 decades. Foam tips are definitely one of them.
