35

2024 is the year I turn 35 years old.

According to Singapore’s demographic measurements, I am at the tail end of the youth spectrum: 18-35.

In the past 17 years, I’ve gone through a fair amount of experiences, both good and bad. I’ve also thought a fair bit about a large amount of subjects and topics.

So, in celebration, or in memory of my youth, I’m commemorating most or all of my art production this year to this project of my 35th year of life on earth.

This page will track the key projects that I am working on, and if you are able to purchase them, I will definitely let you know.

Embrace The End

Materials: (currently) Posca markers on paper, sketchbook.

A continuing series of images of different multicolored asteroids as they break into our atmosphere. If Armageddon is coming, then I’m definitely looking forward to it.

Current count is 17 variations of 4 colors on each piece.

Fire Fire Fire

Materials: Permanent Marker on Bic Lighter. Metallic foil Blind Bag for Merry March at Open Fields 2024

An homage to my days in National Service, and the song by post hardcore band, The Blood Brothers.

Notebooks

I really enjoy stationery. I had bought myself a full ream of paper that I thought was the smoothest at that time. And this paper has followed me for at least 10 years, if not more.

Last year, I watched too many videos about pocket notebooks, and I decided to make a set of my own. These notebooks are small, and they will stay in the size of A6-A7. It should fit into most pockets, and especially in pockets in the little Uniqlo shoulder bags that everyone has.

The covers are all watercolor paper so that you can also draw and create on the notebook too. It’s a collaborative kinda idea. They don’t have many pages, so that you can bring them for short trips, and the aim is to finish one by the end of your holiday, or whatever your notebook project was for.

Take a photo of your notebooks at the end and share them with me.

GBA Zine

The Idea: I have an obsession with the Nintendo handheld systems. I attribute this to my growing up years where I had played with my grand dad’s NES, and at the same time, my parents never bought me a Gameboy.

Gaming has also been in the background of my life. I’ve always been aware of, and occasionally played a number of games through the years.

The GBA zine will be little homages to the different games I played growing up. It fits into a little GBA catridge case, and I hope to have a few by the middle of this year.

Create Not Consume

“Create Not Consume” is a mantra I developed at the end of 2023. I had too many moments through the years, where I realised I spent half a day just mindlessly scrolling through Instagram or TikTok, or worse still, binge watched a series that I had no real creative admiration for.

The mantra to create, instead of consuming, was inspired by a range of productivity videos, especially Tom Sachs –> He made an alarm clock thing that had a notebook inside, so that you would reach for that first before you get to your phone. I loved that idea, but I wanted a simpler approach, like a mantra.
