A Change of Taste

I was looking at the mugs I had from before, I had two Society6 mugs, because they were so dope looking at that time. Clarice had broke one of them, and the other one is still with me. Since then I’ve bought a good number of other mugs, and most interesting is how my taste in mugs and ceramics have changed.

One mug I’m extremely proud of owning is a Culver 10 Ounce mug. While I was reading Jack Reacher last year, I was really so captivated by the mugs of coffee at diners he would drink. In my head, an American diner always looked like this famous painting: Edward Hopper’s Nighthawks: https://artsandculture.google.com/asset/nighthawks-edward-hopper-american-1882-1967/6AEKkO_F-9wicw?hl=en-GB

To me, the mug they’d be holding while having their coffee would be the Culver 10 ounce. It’s white, ceramic, thick. Black coffee looks amazing inside it. I’d know, because I’ve got 4 of them.

Another mug I’ve really wanted to get but haven’t gotten an actual one is the Studio Arhoj Sip cup. I might pick one up by the end of this year if I get my hands on one. Alternatively I’ve gotten one from Bangkok, and it’s a fraction of the price. I think the real one would look totally different.

My current considerations for a mug is how much coffee it can hold, and how it would look on my dining table. An aesthetic, and a functional consideration. At this time, I also appreciate mugs with a ceramic character, meaning either very organic shaped, or a very retro shape. The modern vibes with puns and hip looking colors don’t cut it for me. It’s gotta feel like it came out of a painting itself, or from the 50’s. That’s kinda where I’m leaning on mugs right now.
