Le Gun

I was very easily inspired when I was younger but one of the magazines/artbooks that hit me hard was Le Gun. It’s a contribution magazine, and without doing any research, I will just share my experience of an artbook as a whole.

I bought this on sale at Basheer, an art book store in Singapore. I remember being young, 17-18 years old young. I wanted a book with graphics and illustrations, making me feel fuzzy all over with the idea of being absolutely creative. Truly, teenage idealism at its finest.

But Le Gun really remained that for me throughout. I don’t open the book often, for fear of the pages falling out. But I loved being inspired to just make something from this. I might have pushed a few of my friends together to produce a zine, and while we might not be all friends anymore, the zine still sits in the studio at Through The Roof, and of course at my own library at home too.

Sometimes I really just want to make something to inspire people like how Le Gun did for me. But I know my work isn’t always that way. But it is something I aim for, and hope for somehow.

Just for a younger Joel to pick it up and to be absolutely impressed with it.
